This photo challenge is way more challenging than I thought. It turns out I don't take my camera out enough times to capture photos of our family on a weekly basis. Which is not surprising at all. But maybe, if I keep up with the weekly photo challenge… All the photos from this week were taken with my iPhone and edited with Whitagram. I love to use my iPhone to edit photos. Which apps do you use to edit your photos? My favorites are Whitagram and Afterlight.

Not too long ago I was planning a nursery. But as every parent knows, time flies by and soon enough you get yourself planning the kids college education instead. Sigh... When we moved to our current house I was about 5 months pregnant. It was such a special time with the expectation of the new addition to our family of four plus our new house. We were experiencing lots of new beginnings, as well as a ton of design projects, like the nursery for the new baby. For my third pregnancy, we decided to surprise ourselves and not find out the sex of the baby. So, when I designed this gender neutral space, I used timeless artwork throughout the room and neutral colors. No blues or pinks. I also wanted this nursery to be a continuation of the design style of our new house. So I brought lots of white and rustic wood tones to this room just like we have throughout the rest of the house. But my main design goal for this space was to create a room that could be easily transformed from a nursery to a big boy bedroom. Function + Style = Perfection. Baby Victor came along on July 27, 2012 (read his birth story here). During a hot Summer night in 2014, while washing the dishes, I heard a loud thud sound and an instant cry coming from upstairs. Before the little guy turned 2, he had already managed to climb his way out of the crib. We gave it another try thinking that maybe it had been a lucky night when he managed to "escape", but the very next night, we were faced with the same scenario. So out goes the crib and in comes the bed. I chose this IKEA bed because of its color, clean lines, and the bonus large drawers underneath it for the much-needed storage space. This bed is perfect for this room. We added some acrylic shelving next to the new bed for his favorite books plus a few new wall decals. A fun bedding from Dwell Studio plus some modern pillows and voila, we had a big boy bedroom for the "big" guy. On the other side of the room, facing the crib and bed area, I designed a desk, dresser, and changing station. We custom made a desk using the same wood from the other side of the room and an IKEA's old dresser that I used to have in my bedroom. Eliminating the changing pad when we were diaper free was all that was needed to have a full functioning desk for future homework sessions. Most of the decor stayed the same. How could someone ever get too grown up for a daily dose of Sharon Montrose's gorgeous animal prints, right?

Oh, to be lazy... Whoever said procrastination is not a good thing clearly never understood the beauty of a lazy weekend. Let that laundry pile up and make the beds only when it is time to go to bed again. Sometimes that feels soooo good. Oh, and with a beautiful weather and nice blue skies, hanging out at home the whole day is even better. That small and sweet taste of Spring is the remedy to recharge and get ready for the week ahead. Here are the lazy Sunday photos of my weekly challenge. 1:: Victor playing hide and go seek with Bela 2:: Marcus lounging and snacking 3:: Bela playing piano Do you like to take pictures? I have challenged myself to take one picture of the kids every week. If you want to join the challenge post your kids photos on IG and tag #weeklyphotowithtrendypeas so I can see your photos. Random moments, or theme portraits, anything works. Xo, Patchi

Last week's photo challenge was more of a personal challenge than a photo skills challenge. With temperatures ranging from 7 to 19 degrees Fahrenheit, I guess my challenge was to see how many times I would remove my fuzzy and warm gloves to capture little memories in a beautiful winter wonderland. Our weekend getaway was a very cold one. We headed to the ski slopes at Wintergreen with family and friends for a busy weekend packed with lots of snow and plenty of snowboarding/skiing action. Bela and Marcus have now mastered their snowboarding skills while the little guy has just started. Here are the best photos I captured from each one of them. 1:: Victor with his toys seeing skiers get on and off the lift 2:: Marcus goofing around on the snow 3:: Bela on her board getting ready to go down the slope Do you like to take pictures? I have challenged myself to take one picture of the kids every week. If you want to join the challenge post your kids photos on IG and tag #weeklyphotowithtrendypeas so I can see your photos. Random moments, or theme portraits, anything works. Xo, Patchi

When you mix Minted with Pottery Barn is kind of like mixing strawberry with chocolate fudge. Yum! I have been happily designing non-stop this week for Minted's new design contest. This time around, Minted has partnered with Pottery Barn kids. Together, they will select a few designs that will be available for sale on Minted's website as well as Pottery Barn's. I love participating in these design projects. It sure helps me keep my creative juice flowing and flowing. Below are a few new designs that I have already submitted.

Last weekend we happily celebrated Bela's birthday. This NINE-year-old wanted to celebrate her birthday in 80's style, as you can see it here. To celebrate her birthday, I baked my first fondant cake. With a little help from our friend Yolanda from howtocakeit, Raquel, my Mom and I tackled this challenge and ended up with a two layered cake covered with white fondant and adorned with colorful candles. It sure takes a sweet time to bake and decorate a cake, but it is much easier than I thought. I think it turned out pretty ok, right? And if you stop tilting your head, you will realize that those candles are in fact not crooked at all. I forsee many more fondant cakes in my future. Oh, and the best part to me was to hear the kids saying "wow" as they found out the inside of the cake was a bright rainbow layered cake! The simple décor, including the candles, the candle stand, and honeycomb tissue balls are all ala #targetstyle.

This weekend we celebrated 80's style. The best theme to get kid's portraits might just be an 80's portrait session. All that abundance of color plus the great lighting we had on Saturday afternoon made it easy to get some good shots of the kids. Perhaps we should start dressing like the 80's, no? 1:: Bela making a wish for her 80's theme birthday party 2:: Marcus playing four square in 80's fashion 3:: Victor dancing to 80's music Do you like to take pictures? I have challenged myself to take one picture of the kids every week. If you want to join the challenge post your kids photos on IG and tag #weeklyphotowithtrendypeas so I can see your photos. Random moments, or theme portraits, like this 80's portrait from Bela's party or a black and white session like the portraits from this week here. Anything works. Xo, Patchi

Who is ready for Valentine's Day? With three kids in school times an average of 20 classmates per kid, that equals about 60 valentines they need to bring to school to celebrate with their little friends. Any clever and easy ideas? I usually get this little pop-up balloon in the shape of a heart that fills up when you smash it. It's kind of cool and I get it from the dollar store. I love the price and the kids love to smash it to see the magic happen. I will make a run to the store later this afternoon to see if they still have it. Although, after two years in a row, it might be time for a little change. I designed a few Valentine's Day cards this week and if you scroll below, you can download one of them for free. This xoxo card comes with a front and back and you can print it on a 5x7 card paper. If you are like me and have hundreds and hundreds of crayons laying around, you could attach one on the back so the kids can play tic tac toe as soon as they get their little Valentine.
