1- When we got home last night we found out that our AC was not working. What a surprise. The timing could not have been worst. As I was melting last night, I avoided as much as I could going to bed. I took a shower to cool down and then forced myself to get some sleep. But as I tossed and turned in bed, all I could hear was the AC unit from the neighbor’s house. So I gave up and decided to distract my brain from the miserable heat. I started reading some of my favorite blogs and then I saw this hilarious video from Darby’s blog flythoughourwindow. That video just made me laugh so much and totally changed my mood. Thank you so much for that Darby.
2- This morning I saw the first issue of the Australian magazine MAEVE. It turned out very nice. I loved everything about it. Can’t wait to see the upcoming issues.
3- I have been having a hard time concentrating lately. There is a lot going on over here. My lovely parents are in town. My kids are playing like crazy. I have been designing tons of new designs for future collections. We are already planning our family vacation to Brazil in December. And if that wasn’t enough, Alex decided that I should participate in a Triathlon. He has been addicted to exercise lately. So Trendy Peas decided to participate and join him in an upcoming Triathlon on July 11th. We will be entering as a team. I am going to swim, Raquel is going to run, and to complete the team my dad will ride the bike. I will keep you all posted on this adventure. It should be fun. Love to see my dad doing that at age 65.
I will be sure to be back with more random things later. Enjoy the summer!
Today I found the cutest wooden toys at Just Hatched. A family company founded by a stay-at-home mom and social worker dad from New Castle, Indiana. Just Hatched’s toys are so, so pretty. I love the soft colors of each piece. I am putting these on my list for unique gift ideas. Check out Just Hatched and see some of their other pieces. I might need to get the House Blocks.
I was very excited to hear about the Trendy Peas feature in the June issue of the Pregnancy and Newborn Magazine. Our custom ABC print was featured on page 27 under the cravings session as a “must” item for the nursery. I could not be more happy with the article. Thanks Ginny! We loved it.
Today we are celebrating our one year anniversary on Etsy. In June 10th of 2009, I started uploading a couple of designs from our website to the Etsy website and created a Trendy Peas shop on Etsy. What an amazing web tool Etsy is. I am very proud to have reached 488 sales in the first year. As Trendy Peas keeping growing I hope that so will that number. So, to celebrate our anniversary, we are offering a FREE print with the purchase of two or more prints. If you want to help us reach 500 sales today, head over to Trendy Peas on Etsy and have fun!
Welcome to Sienna’s room. A simple and elegant space with lots of white and a hint of red. Mom Christina purchased five of our 11×14 Bird prints to take over the walls in this large room. The prints were created to match each other, from the pink background to the white braches and the different shades of pinks, red and green. I was really happy how the prints turned out. And I think they look great in the room. The name above the crib in red letters created a great focal point in the space. And the lighting is so very darling.
Sienna, is Christina’s first child. In Christina’s own words she shared with us a little of her experience. “Motherhood’s been a wonderful experience so far! Even with a few hours of sleep I can’t complain.”
Congratulations Christina. The Trendy Peas family wishes you and your family many years of happiness.
Is it too early to start thinking about the Holidays? Well if you are participating in the 2010 Holiday Minted contest it is not early at all. In fact the last day to enter designs is the 10th of June. So, with the deadline approaching, I am trying to finish a few more ideas that I have. But with the sun out and the Summer vibe, I admit it has been a struggle. I am actually listening to some Christmas songs right now to get inspired. Nothing like “White Christmas” by Frank Sinatra to get in the Christmas spirit. Below are a few of the designs I entered in the Holiday Card Spectacular contest so far. Let me know what you think of the designs.
Raising bilingual kids is very exciting and also very frustrating at times. Both Bela and Marcus are bilingual. Well, right now I can say that Bela is. Marcus is still developing and for now, he has his own language. Bela started speaking a little later than most kids her age. And I know Marcus is going to do the same. When Bela started speaking a few words and sentences, she mixed the two languages in a very cute way. It was a Portuguese and English fruit salad with a Swedish cherry on top of it that she gets from her two Swedish uncles. Bela is speaking a lot more English lately, and sometimes I am afraid her Portuguese is fading away. But then she surprises with a couple new sentences. I always hope that eventually, things will just “click” and my kids will be able to be fluent in both languages.
That is why I am very glad to have found this article on Babble around bilingual kids. Check it out here and if you raise bilingual kids, leave a comment with your experience. I would love to hear from you.
